Salomé Cisnal de Ugarte is a Partner in the Antitrust and Competition group of Hogan Lovells and the Managing Partner of the Brussels office.

Clients come to Salomé for her innovative and hands-on solutions to global antitrust issues. She advises on all aspects of EU competition law, but has particular expertise and experience in cross-border mergers and strategic joint ventures, high-stakes investigations and complex vertical issues. She has successfully advised clients on phase I and phase II merger cases before the European Commission and coordinated multinational merger filings all over the world. She is sought by clients for her particular experience and expertise in issues relating to the digital economy, such as artificial intelligence (AI), algorithms and data.

Salomé serves as Vice-Chair of the Competition Policy Committee of AmCham EU and as Elected Director on the Board of the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) in Cambridge (US). She frequently lectures on issues relating to competition )Harvard Law School, College de Europe, IE Law Schoole, ESADE) and is often consulted by journalists.

Salomé graduated summa cum laude in law and economics from the University of Deusto (Premio Extraordinario de Licenciatura) and holds a master of laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School, where she was an associate fellow of the Real Colegio Complutense at Harvard. She obtained a PhD in law from the European University Institute in Florence and has been a Fulbright scholar.

Salomé has unique experience as in-house counsel in charge of antitrust and competition at Whirlpool. She is admitted to practice in Belgium and Spain.

Advising a large U.S. technology company in respect of its multi-billion takeover of an industry player on ex-US filings in over 10 jurisdiction.

Advising a Spanish group of technology companies specializing in vending, payment & security systems as complainant in EU merger proceedings and during negotiation of remedies.
