Partner Ari Fitzgerald spoke on the panel "The Compatibility of Existing Law and Regulation with IoT Technology" at BakerHostetler's CLE program "Who's in the Driver's Seat? What the Connected Car Shows Us About the Legal and Regulatory Issues of the Internet of Things" on March 9 in Washington, D.C.

Panelists discussed the policy implications of what is happening on the technology and business side of IoT and explored the government's role in promoting and regulating these new technologies; including: spectrum sharing, consumer privacy, and cybersecurity issues raised in the FCC's Dedicated Short Range Communications (5.9 GHz) proceeding and NHTSA's Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking; and the role of government in creating and enforcing standards related to these issues.
