The NDC is the source of accountability for the implementation of the Americas diversity and inclusion strategy and our investment in women, minority, and LGBT+ lawyers.

We recognize that diverse teams deliver better results for clients. In 2018, we proudly launched the U.S. National Diversity Committee (NDC) at Hogan Lovells to highlight our support of our women, minority, and LGBT+ lawyers through the engagement of the NDC, and our commitment to diversity and inclusion. The NDC is led by our CEO, Stephen J. Immelt, and is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in the Americas at Hogan Lovells.

Through the Committee's leadership we have worked towards the following goals:

  • obtaining Mansfield Plus Certification;
  • continuing to work on the advancement of women, minority, and LGBT+ lawyers;
  • creating and developing best practices by embedding diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the firm;
  • continuing to align and collaborate with other firm functions; and
  • providing coaching opportunities to our diverse lawyers.

The NDC actively cultivates our pipeline of diverse talent, doing the hard work of transforming our policies, programs, practices, and processes to ensure that they enable us to recruit, develop, and advance our people. Through the evaluation of many data points and firm processes, we are ensuring that diverse lawyers have increased consideration for important career opportunities and sponsorship.

Since the launch of the NDC in 2018, the committee has:

  • supported diverse lawyers through the advancement processes;
  • connected diverse lawyers to the coaching and mentoring they need;
  • opened access to new clients and matters to diverse lawyers;
  • created personal connections with our diverse lawyers through their participation in Allverse in 2018 and hosting group dinners at the conference;
  • provided implicit training to lawyers and business services professionals throughout the United States;
  • oversaw the Mansfield rule adoption and tracking process which resulted in being recognized as a Mansfield Plus Certified firm in 2019; and
  • created a Diversity Innovation Award that will highlight a diverse lawyer's intrapreneurship and ingenious contributions to the firm.
