Employee engagement is crucial in Asia Pacific and Middle East. To ensure that members from all offices and roles have a voice, our internal Women’s Network focuses on retention and development and explores ways to help our female talent flourish. The Working Families Network provides support, practical advice, and a forum for working parents and careers, and our LGBT Network seeks to address the challenges that LGBT individuals face in the workplace.

Specific Events and Initiatives

  • Created women’s focus groups and regional surveys to inform the development of further training and workshops to support career development for women
  • Pioneered research in partnership with Community Business to examine diversity and inclusion from an Asian perspective, and to discuss group dynamics and increase understanding of locally-relevant approaches to diversity and inclusion
  • Sponsored the OutLeadership Summit Asia. In December 2015, we co-hosted (with HSBC) the high-profile OutLeadership Summit, which brought together senior leaders to discuss and drive forward the LGBT agenda in business
  • Actively targeting recruitment to mothers who were looking to re-enter the workforce by working with local government agency in Japan that assists mothers returning to work
  • Supported Pink Dot HK through volunteering at the Pink Dot festival, a celebration of the LGBTI community in Hong Kong
  • Sponsored the Queer Straight Alliance Inclusion Recruitment Conference in Hong Kong, a career event that provided an opportunity for diverse talent from universities to meet with recruiters from leading financial institutions and law firms and to learn more about diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Hosted female leadership workshops in Shanghai, conducted by LEAP, the Fulfilled Self and Women Unlimited. They were held in five sessions over a three-month period and provided leadership training to selected women in leadership and management roles from different organizations
  • Held a series of Working Families Network Events, well-attended and highly informative sessions hosted in Hong Kong and Singapore by external experts on topics including the “Hong Kong School System,” “Adoption,” and “Caring for Elderly Family Members”
  • Held additional events and workshops around cultural and religious awareness, leveraging diverse personalities to add value to the team, developing women into leadership positions, and returning to work after childbirth
  • Offered intelligent and thought-provoking sessions through our Breaking Barriers event series, which aims to bring diverse professionals together and foster an environment where they can share their experience and network with like-minded individuals. Examples of events included:
    • Ulaanbaatar – “Advancing Women Through Quotas: Right or Wrong?” panel discussion and "Communication Leadership – Skills for Crucial Conversations" training
    • Hong Kong – Speech by Angie Lau – award-winning journalist and lead anchor of First Up on Bloomberg Television. She spoke to our clients about her long and distinguished career in journalism, being an Asian female leader in the communications field, and the many life lessons she learned along the way
    • Hong Kong – “Pride of Hong Kong” panel discussion looking at the political, business, and cultural issues affecting the LGBT community in Hong Kong
    • Tokyo – Several interactive training sessions to help attendees develop their personal and professional skills in a variety of areas. Sessions included “Communication Skills in a Global Business Context,” “Team Challenge,” and “Strategic Perspectives and Implementation”
    • Singapore – Series of talks by inspirational speakers including Vijay Santhanam, an author and stroke survivor, who fought back from his major life crisis and managed to return to work and began teaching in prestigious India Institute of Management; and Carolyn Kan, who had a successful career in the advertising industry and decided to pursue her dream to become a successful jewelry designer.
