Multi-Office Team Assists Farm Africa
Social EnterpriseUK and Africa
A multi-office team provided legal assistance to Farm Africa to help with a series of formidable challenges. Farm Africa works directly with African farmers to help ensure lasting rural prosperity.
In 2012, legal changes in Ethiopia threatened Farm Africa's ability to operate there. A partner in our New York office traveled to Addis Ababa to meet with the client, government officials, British Embassy personnel, Ethiopian lawyers, and foreign entrepreneurs, helping to fashion a structure by which Farm Africa's Ethiopian operations will be reorganized into a for-profit business that will operate on a more sustainable basis.
A team in our London office also helped Farm Africa design Sidai Africa Ltd., a tax-efficient social business that offers veterinary and livestock services on a financially viable basis through a network of branded franchises owned by qualified personnel. Sidai has now started 36 small businesses across Kenya, serving 2,000 customers.
